Happy Birthday, Corine!!!

I hope you had a terrific day. I know that this is slipping in just before the end of your birthday, but I hope you like it nonetheless. When I got caught up in first Supernatural and then in NaNoWriMo, I admit that this fic got lost in the shuffle a bit and all. I started it nice and early, but still, only about 1,000 words of it were written before today.

On the bright side, I managed to include all of the prompts! The very basic idea for this fic (Don, Alan, car crash & Glock saving Donny's life) was one I already had, but all of the rest was inspired by the prompts and they allowed me to bring the vague idea I had to life.

I know the ending is a bit odd, but the request was for an angsty fic, so I leave you wondering whether or not Don will make it. You can choose ( ... )

Okay, so I really wasn't thinking last night. When I mentioned that the vague idea was already there, that would be because I'd considered writing the scenario for the hurt_don August Clue Challenge where:

Who?: Don
What?: car
Where?: road

So, yes, this was written purely for Corine's birthday, but it also happens to be a response to this challenge.

You'd think I of all people wouldn't forget this.

Thanks rinkle & aleo_70 for pointing it out to me!

This is so, so good! And Charlie's my favourite character, so for me to love a fic this much when he's not in it is saying a lot. Your characterisations are dead-on, and your descriptions of the scenes and the way you get into Alan's thoughts and feelings is so intense. Awesome fic! I wish there were more though; you've got me really worried about Don.

Wow, thanks!

As for the ending, yeah, well, I was kinda in the mood for this type of one. It's not often I do them, as I know what it can be like from a reader's pov, but the parameters of this fic made it work and I couldn't resist. Sorry.

LOL! I know how that is. I've been cruel to my readers too.

I think this is really lovely and I can't wait for more, but in the episode Protest, they tell us Don was born in 1970 and Charlie in 1975. If Don was born in the late fifties, he'd be in his fifties now. Even Rob Morrow, who is older than the character he plays, was born in 1962.

Yes, what rinkle said. Does that make sense now?

As for more, this is a completed fic, there won't be any more.

:)

Glad you do, it just felt like it worked with this fic given what Corine asked for and I couldn't resist even though I know I might get hounded for it.

Wow, this was really good. I love this a lot!! The fight between Don and Alan was really believable, and you wrote their dialogue really well. The car accident...yikes. Really well written.

I know this is a one shot, but I wish there was more, too. But it's also really great as it is.

Happy birthday, Corinne!!

Thanks for commenting, it's really appreciated!

The fight between Don and Alan is something I've wanted to do for a while now and I'll probably come back to this issue at some point in the future again. There's just so much potential angst there!

Yeah, there is a lot of potential there. I've seen up through season three now and it seems mostly like the show really just dabbles in a lot of the issues the family has with each other.
