I think it's just time for me to admit defeat. Not only did I start this fic early, but I kept working on it all through August, and I still only finished it just before the deadline. The only difference is that this one is far longer than my previous ones for the effort.

That said, I can't believe that I've been writing for this fandom for well over a year now and that it's taken me so long to write a fic that actually starts with opening numbers!

When I saw the prompt words for this round, beach and sunset leapt right out at me and I had a hard time choosing between the two. I may yet write the fic sunset inspired, we'll see.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed what has turned out to be my longest Numb3rs fic to date. I have a feeling, though, that it won't be nearly as popular here as on FF.N as LJ seems to be for people who prefer shorter fics.

:)

Very nicely done! You made excellent use of the prompt. You also did a really good job of portraying Don's emotions as the tide came in.

Thanks!

I'm glad Don' emotions came across well as I was a little worried about it as I was writing it.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it so much.

Yes, I know about some of those word-substitution mistakes; they're the kind I make most often. Due to the fact that this fic kept growing in length, I was unable to get it betad before posting it. I have however asked my betas if they'd still be willing to look it over for me. If so, I'll make the necessary corrections.
Thanks for the ones you pointed out, I'll correct those right now!

Oh, you've definitely got my interest now, prompt and longer fic!!! Can I know what prompt it was that triggered the idea? Whichever it was, I eagerly await it whenever your muse returns to finish it.

This is a great story, very gripping. As for the comment about ff.net v LJ, I have to disagree. I mainly read on LJ and I'm always very happy to see longer fics!

:)

I didn't say there was nobody, but it's a trend I've noticed overall. Perhaps it's because there are less long stories posted on LJ (if I'm missing a site, please let me know as I'm always looking for more N3 fic!).

Thanks for commenting.

Great story! Loved the plot details and the use of the prompt. Very gripping.

I have a feeling, though, that it won't be nearly as popular here as on FF.N as LJ seems to be for people who prefer shorter fics.

I also disagree! I love long fic, I just usually have to print them out to have time to read them away from the computer. *g*

I don't know what it says about me, but when I saw the prompt beach and thought of angst, Donny tied down as the tide swept in came to mind almost instantly. As did another scenario when I saw sunset. This one won out when I starting thinking of water in terms of one of the four elements.

Thanks again for hosting the challenge or this would never have even come to mind! Any clues as to what/when the next round might be?

You're welcome! I'm happy that people continue to want to write for it. *g*

We run on a 2 months on/1 month off cycle, so the next round will be in October.

lol

I'd never noticed that pattern before, probably because I don't write for each round. So no clues for the theme?
