random rec for those who like kinky slash-style original erotica

aphephobia can probably tell from the subject line what I'm about to rec, but for everyone else, I figured I'd finally put this pimpage out there.

The Administration, by ms_manna. A fully constructed, plausible near-future dystopia, well-written, realistic, respectful treatment of kink, two complicated main characters and deep psychological drama, and serious, ( Read more... )

This actually sounds like it'd be up my alley. Although I really have lost interest in the "erotica" genre, I'll always find psychological drama fascinating, which can go along with very well written erotica (as long as teh smexing isn't the focal point of the story).

I haven't done a lot of reading of late, but this is one I'll definitely keep in mind for when I do. =)

The sex totally isn't the focal point, the psychology-- and the tenseness of the environment and what the world under the Administration does isIt's a beautiful series, and one of the first I've noticed which looks at the regular, human aspect of a dystopian future. People still go about their day-to-day lives; there isn't some sort of "this needs to be overthrown" mentality; for what it's worth, people still have regular lives in it and exist almost normally-- and then there's the contrast of various laws and the generalised harshness of the world they're in and how they deal with it ( ... )

There's tons of plot and drama throughout -- it's a series of connected novels, novellas, and short stories. (Some of the short stories are pretty much pure erotica or erotica+relationship stuff only, but the longer stuff all has serious plot and could totally be enjoyed just for that. As long as the reader doesn't actively mind there being erotica sandwiched in there.

EEEE! I wake up to see THIS on my Flist! YAY! (Also: I get paid this week! :D)

I want to re-read the series SO badly, but don't have copies of all of them-- some are in storage, but I'm just tempted to re-purchase the first two.

First Against the Wall, when I read it online? Nearly had me in tears, and it's fairly rare for me to go to pieces at anything.

Just... wow. Am very, very pleased about this.

(I'm still vaguely alarmed that I find myself identifying with Toreth as much as I do. But.. yeah: damnIlovethisseries.)

First Against The Wall is my favorite -- I'm looking forward to having it in print. There really is something different about having them as books.
