The Triumphant Return

May 31, 2007 09:03

Home! Home at my house, and have been so for a day and a half now. Got in to the airport quite early, which would have been nice if the ground crew at the airport had not apparently said they'd be damned if they were going to get our bags early. So after about an hour in Baggage Claim staring at an unmoving conveyor belt, I finally got my ( Read more... )

Boy, Bethany looks way more like our brother than I thought. And who's that little girl clinging to the baby holder's leg? ;)

You're so funny. It's fixed now. When I saved the photos from the slideshow, it saved the next one for some reason. Grrr. And of course you read the post and commented snarkily in the TEN SECONDS it took me to resave and reupload.

So CUTE!!

As for the whole drama...I agree with you as far as LJ being totally within their rights to delete anything they see fit. As you say, they are a private company.

However, what they did *is* bad business. They changed policy midstream without letting their paying customers know and they deleted legitimate communities. It wasn't about child porn or fic. It was supposed to be about eliminating pedophile communities and users (they did get a few seriously icky comms). But in the purge they wiped out sexual abuse survivor support groups, groups dedicated to reading Lolita, and fic sites that happened to occasionally feature incestuous pairings, none of whom were doing anything wrong or promoting any illegal activity, which is what LJ *said* they were going after.

Totally within their rights to delete everyone except those who like fluffy kitties, as you say. But the way they went about it, and what they eliminated--that's the problem.

Hadn't heard about that - yeesh. Clearly they should have taken more time to look at what they were taking down. I wonder if they can put those comms back up once the protests register?

Good point on the censorship issue, although I do feel bad for the incest survivors who were banned. (Reminds me of my friend Karen's site which her uncle couldn't access because the program at his office program pulled 'genital' out of 'congenital heart defect' and banned it. Culling people by key word is a pretty imperfect system.

Okay, well, now apparently they're going through the journals they pulled and unfreezing everything that isn't actually a full-on creepfest. Including all of the fanfic journals, which... well, I think some of those are full-on creepfests (such as the one dedicated to Georgie Henley/James McAvoy fic... ew ew ew ew ew), but whatever.
