I was looking at the IMDb page for Emma 2010 just now and thinking it was bizarre that while Jodhi May and Romola Garai were rivals for Hugh Dancy in Daniel Deronda 2002, now Jodhi is playing Romola's governess ( Read more... )

I have nothing to add about this miniseries--it doesn't really sound like anything I'd be interested in, although it also sounds like the sort of thing I might wind up watching on Masterpiece Contemporary just for the cast--but. I love Jodhi May. Why is she not in more stuff??? (And I totally didn't know she was playing poor Miss Taylor Mrs. Weston.)

The reviews were hilarious! I've written some vitriolic reviews of my own in the past, but the Brits manage to infuse just an extra bit of sarcasm and loathing.

Haven't heard anything about the miniseries. But I'm usually the last one to find out anything.

Out of curiosity, since I was bored this weekend and was reading some of your old posts and reviews, did you ever end up seeing the Star Trek movie? I had completely forgotten of all of my misgivings about it and I loved it! I thought it was much better than what the initial previews suggested.

I did go see it, actually. My friend who's published Star Trek fiction and my friend who's mom named her after an Original Series character were going, and I figured that wasn't an opportunity I could pass up :) I enjoyed it a lot as I was watching it (except for a few of the special effects sequences going on too long). Now that a few months have passed, I feel like I could see it again or not, and be equally content.

Right, that's pretty much what I thought too. Though I'm not sure why I have that prejudice, since I watch Hollywood thrillers now and then. I guess I just have different expectations from the UK.

If this came on PBS, I'd probably watch it out of sheer curiosity. I'm usually not a huge fan of war epics - especially contemporary ones - but I've been known to be wrong in my advance disinterest.

Plus, right now Robin Hood is making me wish for Richard Armitage to get a new job. Cute show, but what a huge waste of his talents!
