More Potter Pronouncements

As you know, I am quite miffed at J.K. Rowling for not letting her readers make their own minds up about what happens to the characters after the last book.

Her most recent offense is a Weasley Family Tree which gives the first and middle names of (all?) the children of Harry's kids' generation ( Read more... )

If you don't want to know, don't read it.

If only it were that easy! All the knowledge I've come by has been from internet news headlines, people telling me, or from reading what seemed like perfectly innocent articles that popped in quotes from Rowling on the subject. I went and looked at this family tree because all the "news" in it had already been posted on a friend's blog.

I was disappointed about Neville and Luna too.

Love the fanartist you've got in your icon.

I love her "pronouncements," although most of them are answers to questions asked by people who DO want to know what happens.

Otherwise I would never have known that Percy has a daughter named Molly, which is my name, and another named Lucy, which is my beloved late dog's name. COINCIDENCE? ...yes, probably, but still.

Hmm.

I kind of don't believe that Charlie wouldn't get married. And I wonder who this Audrey is, who married Percy? But it makes me sniffly to think that Percy named his first child after his mum.

RE: Charlie, see my comment below. RE: Percy, the Molly thing is unexpectedly touching. I wouldn't have thought it of him. And I'm glad he married someone we'd never heard of!

You mean, that it wasn't Penelope Clearwater? ;)

...that's exactly what I meant, actually. It's a little much for everyone to marry someone from high school. Just like it's a little much for them to name all their kids after people they know. (Hooray for Rose and Hugo!)

(*sigh* but did it have to be "Hugo"?)

I don't know. Considering that a lot of people take JKR's pronouncements as "deutero-canon," I don't see how this really changes much. Everyone is still free to ignore it.

Though I love George/Angelina. Love it. And the fact that Charlie never marries makes me wonder if he's not gay. Though if he were I wish she'd pair him with a guy.

Also, glad she confirmed that James is named James Sirius. Anything else wouldn't be right. And Lily Luna! How cute!

I don't know that the family tree is supposed to be final; it could just be what she's worked out so far. If we've learned anything about J.K.R. it's that she constantly revises her ideas. Maybe she just hasn't decided who Charlie marries.

Oh yeah, and I feel vindicated - when there was a mild "whaaa no kid named Sirius or Fred?" uproar I assumed George had a Fred and James was James Sirius (as did many people, I imagine).
