Congrats on your Sherlock début! I like this premise -- social loners often do get primary encouragement from grandparents instead of parents (which would make sense in this case in particular;"You can imagine the Christmas dinners," etc.). Very nice, how grandmother manages to engage both the emotional and intellectual sides of Sherlock's passions. The bit about playing the violin on the cold terrace was especially lovely.

Hey, what a great comment! Thanks! (although this is actually my third foray into Sherlock land ;)

I have to admit, the third bit with the violin was inspired by this beautiful fic http://wordstrings.livejournal.com/4696.html#cutid1 which makes me cry every time I read it.

I liked the idea that this sort of banishment of Sherlock to his granny's might have ended up being not punishment, but reward...
