So, Flat Earth Theatre's kinda at a loss for what to do next. We need a good play that isn't so demanding set-wise (as we have no money) and has a small cast. Like 3-4 characters.

Any suggestions?

If you're not familiar with Richard Foreman and www.ontological.com (I don't remember which conversations we've had), you might find some fun stuff there. Very big on creative process over necessary staging minimums.

Poodle with Guitar and Dark Glasses, by Liz Duffy Adams. It's a marvelous thing, though really more of a long one-act. I've got a copy around somewhere. Five characters...Here's the rights notes...http://www.playscripts.com/play.php3?playid=408

God. I read the part of it that's online and it's absolutely beautiful. I don't know if it'll work for our company right now, seeing as the male characters either don't talk or speak Russian, but I definitely want to do it at some point. Possibly with Nick as the Russian guy.

It -is- a part that requires someone with understanding of Russian...it's one of my favorite plays, ever. Actually the first one I ever designed, too. :)

I worked on DEAR LIAR last fall - you should have come to see it, Ren!

Val: (all of these are 3-4 characters except the last two)
  • Nixon’s Nixon (I’m sure Kevin might like this)
  • Old Times by Harold Pinter (Cast of three, wonderful script)
  • Bash or The Mercy Seat by Neil LaBute (One of you in the group has probably read these - and weren’t you considering doing the latter play?)
  • A Beckett play (Happy Days, Endgame, etc)
  • Yasmina Reza’s plays (what I’m currently working on here in CA) - Art, Life x 3, The Unexpected Man.
  • The Zoo Story by Albee (though he can be difficult about performance rights issues)
  • How To Act Around Cops, a little play I saw in London in 2004 that had a timely critique on American paranoia. More info here: http://www.chantalarts.co.uk/copspressrelease.html
  • Dealer’s Choice or Howard Katz by Patrick Marber ( ... )

No, but I randomly thought of you this morning AND today you posted, so that pretty much means either I am clairvoyant or you are just awesome.

Yeah sorry I am no help on the play issue. <3

Glass Menagerie is my favorite play of all time. My English teacher didn't tell us that Tennessee Williams was gay, which kind of added a whole new layer to it years down the road.

Death of a Salesman? There are no sets to that one.

I second Zoo Story from above.

Man, I haven't read any plays in a long, long time...
