Yes, the hero or macho complex is not getting any better... but it is very much in-character for him, I have to say. It could be that one has to be an adolescent boy to find such a thing admirable or cool.
Sorry for the mini-rant, it's just that your handling of all of these characters is remarkably true to canon, which is quite rare.
