Oh, that hurts. And the last line is a killer. (Or a "KEL," as karaokegal puts it.)

It wasn’t his planet. It wasn’t his people. For the first time in centuries he knew that he didn’t belong there...and they all looked far too much like Them.

I never thought of it that way. I wonder if makes it worse when, post-Time War, humans do something that makes him angry? Certainly it would make an experience like the one in Midnight all the more devastating -- a greater betrayal -- when his "favorite species" has become the closest thing to a people that he has left.

You know, I very nearly had the last line (or a variation thereof) be the entire story. But then I thought that would be pushing it and came up with a little more.

Thanks for reading! I never considered Midnight that way - it's an interesting thought.

Wow. I loved the writing style, very poetic. And the Doctor's melancholy rang true to character. The last line felt so well.

This hurt so nicely. Newly regenerated Nine always produce such good angst and add to that your exceptional talent to write emotions, that's a winning equation.

That last line was just perfect.

Now that's what I'm talking about!

I missed the sucker punch in the gut feeling your stories often leave me with.

And he despaired in the face of the knowledge that there no longer was any place where he wasn’t an alien.

It's painful, heartbreaking, and so very true. Great job! This is a fabulous addition to your Time War table!

Thanks for the praise! The Doctor gives depressing authors a lot to work with.

This is heart-breaking. The moment is very special, but you describe it so properly. I love the last line.
