This is fantastic as ever - "he had not been battered by the sensations of his own wrongness." - "The large, expressive eyes of this lifetime" and "Oh, look, he’s miraculously fine again, let’s have cake!’” - those lines are particularly wonderfully descriptive of their relationship... just beautifully in character. I'm in awe. Of the whole thing, actually.
