Kain and Nosgoth are one, their destinies interwoven and indistinguishable. Every selfish choice Kain makes affects the land, turns it into a barren wasteland just as he turns from the handsome man he used to be into the monstrous being she is cursed to see every day, every night. All traces of humanity have been erased from his face, and with them disappeared all traces of Nosgoth’s former beauty.
He doesn’t seem to care - Kain is a creature of selfishness in the midst of an empire build on deceit. He doesn’t notice the abhorrent lines each new act of betrayal carves into the land that once was her home. What does he care for beauty?
His entire being has been shaped by treason, his ugly face reflecting his ugly soul. When Ariel looks back on her initial betrayal that should have taken his life, all she sees is justice unfulfilled.
