Rating: G
Prompt: #050 - Believe
Claim: The Time War
Table: Here
Spoilers: None
Characters/Pairing: Doctor/Master
Summary: They believed many things during their lives.

Koschei believes that the universe is bigger than the constellation of Kasterborous, yet he also believes that Gallifrey is bigger than the universe. Just about the Time Lords he isn’t so sure.

-

Theta believes that the universe is bigger than Gallifrey, Kasterborous and everything inside. Bigger than the Time Lords in any case. Especially small is their tolerance for heresy such as this.

-

Koschei eventually decides that the Time Lords are not bigger than the universe, but he believes that they could be. He doesn’t want them to - as long as he is the only one using his potential the Master will be bigger then anything else.

-

The Doctor soon finds out that the universe is bigger than him, and that he is not enough to solve every problem himself. It is a painful, yet necessary experience. He believes he can learn from it.

-

The Master believes that the Doctor could be like him, if only he would let himself grow.

-

The Doctor believes that Koschei could have been like him, if both of them had tried harder. He doesn’t know if it’s worth wasting any hope on the Master.

-

After having been resurrected by a high council that once believed they were doing the right thing and is now facing the extinction of their species, the Master believes that the drums have always been with him.

-

The Doctor knows that many mistakes have been made by the Time Lords in regard of the war - he believes resurrecting the Master is one of them, and that trying to manipulate him can only go wrong.

-

During the worst of the fighting the Master was sure the Doctor would come up to his level. Later he is surprised how pleased he is to learn that he outgrew him.

-

After the war the Doctor believes that the Master is dead. Later he believes, for a second, that it is a good thing he isn’t.

-

Facing another final death, the Master knows that this time he has won.

Until this moment he believed it was what he wanted.

-

Once, Theta believed that some things were meant to last forever.

The Doctor knows better.
