I really don't even consider that perl; really. The regular expression library, although intrinsic to perl, is so vast and powerful I consider it a language unto itself. Mind you though, I love them both.

Yeah, regexps are kind of like a minimal, hard-to-read declarative programming language. The power of perl is that, to some extent, you can use imperative, declarative, and functional structures depending what which makes the most sense.
