Hello zen's f'list, this is fan-eunice with the news no one wants to hear. Zen left us this evening at 10:30, at home surrounded by her sister, her Petey, her bunny, and me.

We didn't expect it this fast, but thanks to the team at Loyola she went out exactly like she wanted. I don't know if you all want details? Would it matter? If it does she started deteriorating yesterday as the result of a minor cold that was not in itself serious, but was simply one straw too many for her already stressed body. She was in the ICU by this morning, and very shortly after decided that she had had enough of hospitals, tests, and monitors and asked to be taken off all life saving measures and allowed to go home with just treatment to make her comfortable. You don't need to worry that she was treated with absolute dignity, because she was. From the second we walked into the ER this morning. She got exactly what she wanted, when she wanted, and how she wanted, and although it took the hospice team some time to get everything together she was home by 7 pm in her own bed, with her people, just as she wanted.

She was not at full consciousness by the time she came home, but she visibly relaxed and it was very obvious she was glad to be here. At the end there was no struggle, no pain, she just slowed down and then stopped. On her own terms as she did everything. She won. Cancer tried to take her out the way it wanted, but she told it to fuck off and did it exactly her way instead. What else is there to say? Except goodbye to the best friend I have ever and will ever have. To say she will be missed is the understatement of the fucking century.
