Music Album Review #1: Imagine Dragons - Night Visions [Deluxe Edition]

Mar 08, 2013 00:25

Since I don't necessarily like writing anything about myself, I decided to try something new here with LJ. I'm going to review...stuff and things almost every day. That's the goal, anyway. I'm going to write fairly extensive reviews on music albums, movies, TV episodes, manga volumes, even stuff like figurines as I get them. I'm not going to do ( Read more... )

BAWWWW I love On Top of the World. It's a cute song and I think happy, perky songs bring a nice balance to albums ((I like it when albums can explore multiple "moods" and not be the same mood the entire way through)). This song doesn't really make me think of Train at all, though. Train does a lot of love songs that are very blue collar in nature rather than stuff that's perky and generally about feeling good. On Top of the World is more about being happy in your own skin and learning and growing, as well as achieving goals. If anything, it somewhat represents some of what I like in Imagine Dragons' songs. Because they're a new band, there's a fresh sense of optimism and confidence in general with a lot of their songs and the darker ones aren't as much dark as they are cool. I also like their diversity of theme. This album has quite enjoyable lyrics overall ( ... )

Those songs just didn't do a whole lot for me, but I bumped up my rating for the whole album because of that diversity they bring. It works as an album, but I won't put those songs in a different playlist.

I'm also really trying hard to critique the songs and trying to give true star ratings where:
1/5 = No listening for me
2/5 = I'll listen, but I won't pick it
3/5 = Average song, nothing special
4/5 = I'll put it in a shuffle playlist
5/5 = All-time fave

AND I SO CAN'T WAIT FOR ONEREPUBLIC'S "NATIVE" TO COME OUT. I am so in love with the singles that were released from it so far. "Feel Again" is my total MattLevi song xD and "Counting Stars" has so many awesome one-liners in the lyrics omggggg

BY THE WAY, would you like to look into more albums by The Script? xD #3 had my very favorite of their songs on it ((BROKEN ARROW FFFFF I SWEAR THIS IS LIKE ONE OF MY TOP FAVE SONGS ANYWHERE RIGHT NOW)) but I realized two of them that I really like from YouTube aren't on this album 8V specifically one called "I'm Yours" and one called "Rusty Halo"...

I KNOW! ONE REPUBLIC! I'll probably make my next B&N order when it is released.

I'll look into more Script albums. They have a good sound with some sweet songs. I'll probably review #3 in the next week or so. At least there aren't 16 songs to review. I swear I listened to each song 2-3 times while writing this (not to mention the 3 or 4 live versions of Round and Round I watched looking for a good view of the guitarist xD )

I also noticed that Imagine Dragons had different special editions depending on where you bought them and there are a few songs that weren't on our version. So I'll probably see if they are available on iTunes or Amazon or something.
