I called my priest today and told him I want to get chrismated. I did go to church, I just ended up calling him afterwards instead of talking to him there.
I was a catechumen for a year and a half, although I was an inquirer for about 6 months. It didn't take me very long I suppose. I got baptized as an Orthodox Christian too, so that moment was more definitive for me.
I still sometimes wonder how I ever got here. I never would have thought five years ago that I would be where I am, but I would never trade it.
Keep praying, stay near to the Church, and get to know your priest/confessor/catechist. That's probably the best advice I could give you. I pray that God will help you in your journey, and that you find the Truth. What more can we seek for?
Hope you don't mind, but I've added you as a friend. Why? Eh, I suppose it's because it's rather difficult to find, listen, and converse with individuals who are Orthodox in my area. Most of the people at my Church are above the age of fifty. So yes, please don't be too much put off.

Yikes! What's the process like? Is it thrilling?

I have added you as a friend as well. There was no off-putting involved. :)
