I hate my to-do list

However, at least the university does have three jobs for me to fire applications towards.  For all the good it's done so far.  To-do: write ass-kicking cover letter, brainwash self into believing a soul-sucker of a job is worth making as much as Spouse for a change ( Read more... )

writing, complaining to the heavens, job hunt

You are so brave to send things out to publishers. I admire you for doing that. Sending stories out with the full knowledge that it's probably going to get rejected is the hardest part of being a writer.

The second hardest part is going to a book store, picking up a book and leafing through it, and realizing that it's been published and it's not nearly as good as what you have written.

You know this, but you write extremely well, and I hope some publisher will publish what you write, so I can go to a bookstore and buy what you've written (thereby increasing your income, if only by a fraction). (Also I would tell everybody I know who reads that they need to go buy your stories, thereby increasing your income by another fraction.)

I'm assuming that Ichabod has developed a personality that is distinct from the good professor's. How is Ichabod doing?

Hey, I'm counting on the flist to help sell my first book (whenever that may be). Good to know you're stepping up to the challenge!

Ichabod is turning out different from the Professor in some ways, yes. For one thing, he seems to be a good bit shyer and more tongue-tied. Though he's become quite good at making other people come to him, they do still have to. It's been interesting to watch. It's also interesting to keep him articulate in his head, but concise to the point of unhelpfulness aloud. For some reason, he's quite determined to take up a pen and draw allegories of the things on his mind. They're not always easy to make out from my angle, but we're working on that. Still, he's getting on. We're to the part of the story where he has to sit and hear what other people think of him, poor fellow.
