I know what you mean about Texans and most of them are just as you describe. Sweet as honey to your face, but stab you in the back. I had serious culture shock when moving there. Being from Kentucky, I was fairly open and was considered rudely blunt by most Texas women. Something that really shocked me was the perceptions of black people. I was doing makeup for a black woman and she spent most of the time talking bad about her own people and saying how she wished she was white. *shakes head* I felt really depressed when I left. Glad I'm not in TX anymore, though KY has its own issues with close-mindedness.

I guess not all TX women are like that, but the large majority of them are. Men, I feel like, are more direct. It was quite refreshing to go to Philly for school and everyone there said exactly what they felt to your face. They're the same here in Finland too.
It's true that Blacks tend to be even more critical of their own, but there is a limit to what you say or think. I get a lot of it being of mixed heritage, light skinned, and daiting a white guy, most blacks are like "well, no wonder" or "I'm not surprised"...whatever
