The Old Man Analogy of Computer Languages

With a new year comes a new job for me (same employer, though). I'm very happy to have gotten this new job -- among other things, it's allowing me to learn and use ASP.NET/C#, which I'd never used before now ( Read more... )

I'm so old I remember when learning a programming language was learning Basic. I started to learn C, but never really got very far. My father put an annoying bootup message on our computer, and I learned only enough C to get rid of the message, and nothing more.

I would recommend 4 guys from Rolla website. At least to get a starting point with any control or method you are learning. Even if I don't use the methods they do, they usually have something to point me in the right direction.

Mainly, I recommend GOOGLE. I think google saves a lot of programmer's butts in helping find answers to whatever they are working on.

I have a lot of books, and you can look over them while you visit. I don't use them often, but they are good to have around when something completely foreign gets thrown on my plate.

Instead, I would recommend getting a MSDN magazine subscription. I have them, and the articles are always interesting.
