I can't tell you how much I love this. I simply don't have the words; it feels like I've been waiting forever for this fic, for this sort of redemption for Sam and now that you've written it all I can say is thank you. This is gorgeous writing, but I think what I liked best is that you touched upon the fact that every stupid thing Sam did, he did for Dean. Even if Dean didn't want it.
(just now getting to fic comments) thanks so much! I think I felt compelled to write this fic because I love Sam too much to not do my best to, well, explain him. Because so much of what he did in season 4 is so objectively awful that I had to subjectify it...or something ;)
I started to read, intrigued by the genre and summary, but struggled at first because I'm not a fan of/comfortable reading second person fic. So I scrolled down to see the comments, and the one from mimblexwimble convinced me to go ahead and read it anyway.
So I did and am SO SO glad. There is nothing I crave more in fic than themes of sacrifice and redemption (maybe that's what I like the show so much, huh?), and this really delivered!
The tense worked here, surreal and knowing-more-but-not-telling as we bounced back and forth in time. It broke my heart but left me contented and hopeful, and I can't ask for more than that!
(Good luck with your novel! I don't have 50 on my friends' list, or I'd take you up on the offer!)
I read one of your Veronica Mars fics, and it hit me harder than any other fic has before. This is definitely in the running. I love the pacing, I love understanding even a bit of Sam. The way they love eachother, its in every single word of this story.
I don't even have the words for this...definitely the SPN fic I'll compare everything else to.

Thanks for the comment, and my apologies for being so late to reply-- I've been on vacation, and not online very much.

Thanks so much for the comment. Writing new fic for a huge fandom like this can feel a little daunting.
