It's not that people over 65 (or 60) need less sleep, Utsi. It's just that we GET less sleep. I can't seem to make it past the 6 1/2 hr. point generally. I want more though, really I do.

the stats are from a medical journal i was reading :) i gather that seniors tend to need more sleep because they get less theta and delta sleep. things to factor into a "good night's" sleep- your sleep efficiency, and the quantity of each type of sleep that you are getting. for example- i have a 50% sleep effiency. which means that i get 2 hours of sleep for every 4 hours i spend in what i think is sleep. i get little to no delta, and minimal REM (theta). i also alpha spike back to alpha when i hit delta. translation- i am almost constantly in a meditative state instead of sleep, and since delta is where the body repairs itself- i heal really slowly.

part of the stats that i have read about seniors (and you don;t technically qualify for them just yet- 70+), is that they get less more often. so it's more like going back to childhood and needing naps :P

This was interesting. I read somewhere that people that test as geniuses on the norm get very little sleep. Einstein averaged like 3 hours a night, I think the article said, and van gogh as well. Perhaps that's why it's so hard to tell the genius from the insane. ;)

lol...eccentric is simply mad, but with lots of money, so a genius is simply a sleep deprived wretch with several brain cells to rub together? *g* i like that
