Just another village that needed saving, Gabrielle kept reminding herself of that.
These people won't notice. Maybe I can move my hair over it.
But she knows it won't work - in all the dodging of kicks and punches, it will be revealed.
Purplish and blue against her white neck, marking her at this young age to be owned.
A bruise caused by teeth and tongue, caused by Xena.
And it's just another village that needs saving, but Gabrielle thinks every pair of eyes is on her body, on this sign of what Gabrielle craves.

"Xena..."
"Mmmmmmm..."
"Go. To. Sleep."
"No."
"We have important things to do tomorrow."
"Not really."
"You don't think stopping Ares from taking over that temple is important?"
"I think what I am doing, right now, is the most important thing ever, Gabrielle."
"But, Xena, don't you think tha--"
But she cannot speak because Xena has latched on to her flesh and won't let go.
Ahhh... well, maybe she's right...
However, with tomorrow upon them and Ares staring at the spot between Gabrielle's shoulder and chin... the bard thinks that she should have stopped Xena after all.

As they rushed Livia, Gabrielle didn't want anyone to know.
Because so much had changed and so much stayed the same and she didn't know what they were anymore. Were they lovers? Were they friends?
Or were they each others worst enemy?
But blue eyes so like their mothers focused on Gabrielle's skin and with a smirk Livia charged her way, her mother's eyes on that blemish of love and desire and need.
Gabrielle didn't want anyone to know, especially this woman before her.

Cyrene had to laugh out loud, because it was so obvious what Gabrielle was doing.
She looked from her daughter, blissfully ignorant, and then back to Gabrielle.
Gabrielle, in her green top and brown skirt... and now with a white sash or strip around her neck. She says it is for the cold weather and Cyrene laughs harder.
"Mother. About this squabble..." Xena starts and Cyrene tries to compose herself.
"Oh, yes, Demeter's followers are trying to erect a temple here and the town is fighting it, citing favoritism..." Cyrene gets it out, but cannot hold back a chuckle or two.
"I'll take care of it then. Gabrielle? You want to stay here?"
"No, I'll come along."
"I don't want you to get hurt."
"I'll be fine, promise."
"Yes, Xena, let her join you... haven't you, uh, wounded her enough?"
And Cyrene busts out laughing some more, doubling over and barely catching a glimpse of Gabrielle smacking Xena's stomach - hard - before they both walk out to feuding worshipers.

"Why do you have your hand around over that side of your neck?"
"It's a new fighting style."
"Oh really?"
"Yep. It's called 'hide the hickey my girlfriend left on my neck' move."
"Oh."
"So, can we get on with this?"
"Uh, yea, sure."
And a group of Romans run at them, spears and swords raised.
And Xena and Gabrielle fight them off easily, one with deadly intent and the other just trying to save a little modesty on the battlefield.
Damn, it's hard to write about hickeys...lol.
Anyway. Hope you like it
