Suzaku's starter. Only the most fitting, given his love of cats. If Rita had been male, he probably would have named him Arthur--instead, he called her Lita. The Pokedex interpreted it as Rita. That's what happens when you're Japanese, I guess. He tried to correct it, but it didn't really work, and then "Rita" just kind of stuck. It's a classy name for a classy cat like herself; she's a spoiled and sassy little brat that enjoys trolling Suzaku at every opportunity. However, as a team they have a very strong bond, and although he doesn't use her as part of his main party anymore, he always takes her out of the PC for extended periods.
Benji was Suzaku's second Pokemon, and the first one he ever hatched on his own. Professor Layton sent him the egg after Suzaku saw his post with a whole host of bitchen-looking grown up Pokemons and said "WOW THAT DOG THING LOOKS COOL." Appropriately, Benji is probably the coolest Pokemon Suzaku has (which is hilarious because he's a fire type). Also the most protective, as Benji has a habit of serving as a guard dog, and always runs to the aid of any of the others in his team that are in trouble, which has, at times, prompted Suzaku to keeping Benji in his Pokeball during battles where he isn't being used after an incident where Benji rushed in and nearly ruined the whole fight in an effort to back up Rita in a fight she was losing.
Benji also has a vast love of licking the screen of the Pokegear while communicating with other people's Pokemon over it. Suzaku had no idea why until Yuri Lowell's Pikachu informed him that it was just his way of trying to say hello.
Scuttle was caught in Cherrygrove City, early on in Suzaku's adventure. He was walking along the beach and spotted something scuttling furiously in his direction and promptly engaged it in a battle!! And since he possessed such a tenacious spirit, Suzaku caught that sucker. Bet you can't figure out how he got his name after hearing that story Suzaku is very creative. Scuttle is one of the few Pokemon in Suzaku's team that doesn't participate in the morning jogs, despite his apparent love of scampering around; he just can't keep up with the runners.
Once upon a time, a Weedle was crawling along a leaf in Yukari's direction and she had no idea how close she was to having a bug creeping all over her. So Suzaku threw his balls at it to save her. It was the only way.
