Social Links ; Persona 3
Akihiko Sanada ; The Emperor
Rank 8 | "Then, if it doesn't matter then be done with it. Cut it off like an infected limb and don't look back."
Akihiko is Ken's hero. There is no other way to put it. Akihiko is Ken's hero, and he wants to be just like him when he grows up. Akihiko is someone who he can understand him, and who he can understand in return. An orphan, whose lost everything over and over again, who lives to fight, with the same power as Ken--or at least, that's how the boy sees him.
It was Akihiko who found Ken in that alley, and rather than coddle him, rather than soften reality for him, his senpai told him that he could die in the alley, if that was what he wanted. But, somehow, his words turned Ken around, and gave Ken the energy, the will to go forward each day, and he will do his best to continue doing so.
Ken admires Akihiko for everything he is. He is strong and brave and good, something Ken is sure he will never be. He will take Akihiko's side in any argument, even over Miles should the two disagree on something, because Akihiko will more than likely be right.
Mitsuru Kirijo ; The Empress
Rank 6 | "You were given a chance to continue living. You have so many things you could do with that chance."
If Ken has mixed feelings for a member of SEES, it has to be Mitsuru Kirijo. The woman whose family was responsible for the cover up for his mother's death; the girl who welcomed him into SEES, allowing him fight without a thought for his safety or his mother's sacrifice; the teenager who lied through her teeth at him when he asked if Minato was going to be all right. She is nosy, and she is bossy, and she likes to pretend she is his mother. She tells him he has so much to live for, without even asking what's wrong.
He wants to hate her.
But he can't.
Because Mitsuru tries to do what she feels is right. Because Mitsuru was used as a pawn, just like he was, and she lost her father to the game. Because he saw how sad and broken Mitsuru was when Takeharu died. Because despite all this, she took the time to find him when he needed someone the most. And she stayed with him, tried to take care of him, and eventually helped him feel like he was a living person again.
He can't turn a blind eye to what Mitsuru does wrong, he can't admire her and ignore her faults as he does for Akihiko, but maybe that's healthier for them both. He isn't afraid to look Mitsuru in the eye and say "leave me alone," but he would drop everything to help her if she truly needed it.
Yukari Takeba ; The Lovers
Rank 4 | "You know me. There's nothing I can't handle."
Yukari Takeba is one of the first people Ken met from SEES, and the first one to get to know him, from their Sundays at the Naganaki Shrine. She and Junpei were there weekly, and while their companionship started out strange, he grew to appreciate it.
Ken sees Yukari as a good, if tainted person, and her coldness to him--to everyone in SEES leading up to March 31st is almost like a betrayal. But Yukari in Johto is the one who is his friend. He knows her attitude was because she was such good friends ("friends"?) with Minato, but it doesn't stop it from stinging. But only the people you care about can really hurt you, right? In the end, he really regrets disappearing from Olivine before meeting up with Yukari, and hopes he gets a chance to see her again soon.
Fuuka Yamagishi ; The High Priestess
Rank 3 |
Ken likes Fuuka, he really does. But he's not very close to her. She's quiet, he's quiet--all that. She states the obvious a lot, and she's kind of awkward, but she's a nice person and Ken likes her.
Shinjiro Aragaki ; The Moon
Reversed | "It doesn't matter what you wish had happened. You can't change the past."
This relationship will forever be reversed. Because no matter what Shinjiro does, he is still Ken's mother's murderer.
But talk about complicated feelings.
Ken hates Shinjiro for everything he is. Shinji is a murderer, and because of that, Ken is alone. Accident or not, Shinji ran from his problems, ignored them, took drugs to suppress his persona and tried to forget it ever happened. He killed himself slowly for two years, despite having friends who loved and cared for him. And then he had the gall to go and die for Ken. Putting his life on Ken's shoulders.
But Shinjiro has shown time and time again that he's not a total jerk. And he did protect Ken with his life, though Ken can never be sure if it was paying him back or because he actually gave a damn about Ken's life. He's good with animals, and he fights hard. Miles seems to like him. And he's never been directly horrible to Ken.
Which just makes everything worse.
All Ken wants is for Shinjiro to hate him. If he does that, Ken can finally be at peace with his negative feelings for him. But until then, thinking of Shinjiro doesn't just bring anger to Ken's mind, but a sickness, his stomach tightening.
Ken isn't sure he can ever forgive Shinjiro for what he did. But he just wants to be unforgiving in peace.
