[ 'Sup Johto? Have a very blurry shot of snow cruising past.

Oh, there's Quistis. She's draped on King's back (goodness gracious, that must be cold), and she holds up a Pokéball in front of the camera. ]

I decided to catch one of the hundreds of Snover swarming around outside the city. They're sort of cute. If I'm not mistaken, though, they're ( Read more... )

Weak in terms of types? I'm not so sure. I mean, yeah, it's twice as weak against Fire-type attacks, but the two types can balance out some weaknesses, such as Grass's weakness to Flying and Ice's weakness to Rock.

...That aside, aren't you cold?

You have a point. Still, each Grass and Ice have several type weaknesses, and only one of them - Fire - overlaps. That leaves them with quite a few vulnerabilities, doesn't it?

King makes things a little chillier. [ She raps on the bird's steel hide lightly. ] It's faster getting back this way, though.

But again, two of those types are Flying and Rock. It can use Ice-type attacks to counter Flying-type Pokémon, and Grass-type attacks against Rock-type Pokémon. And being an Ice-type negates the Grass-type's weakness to Ice entirely, and Grass gives it resistance to Water, Electric, Grass, and Ground-types. And this is all without taking offense into account.

I see. How far did you venture out that you're flying back?

Offensively, they're probably pretty good, actually. I hadn't considered offense yet, either. Still, Grass-types are weak against Bug, Flying and Poison, and Ice against Fighting and Steel - add Fire, and that comes out two six type disadvantages. If their offense makes up for it, though, that's not so bad... [ She looks thoughtful for a moment. ]

Almost two hours, walking, and then I realized I had to be at work soon. [ She sighs and shakes her head, rueful. ]

[ Skamory is excitedly eyeing the device, watching King run. Leon just looks vaguely impressed because holy crap, metal in winter. ]

Aren't they grass and ice? That'd leave them with... [ Think think think. ] More than five weaknesses. [ He thinks. He doesn't know all the strength/weaknesses by heart yet. ]

[ Luckily, King's focused right now, so he doesn't hear or recognize Leon's voice - otherwise, he'd be stopping to try to see Skarmory. ]

Six, I'm pretty sure. I was sorting it all out earlier; they have five weaknesses between them, and they share a weakness against Fire. I haven't really taken stock of their offensive capabilities yet, but they're probably pretty impressive. [ She's still musing over it. She will make use of this adorable thing yet, damnit. ]

[ What's even luckier is that Skarmory hasn't warbled a greeting yet--in fact, Leon keeps reminding her to be quiet by pushing her beak away. ]

Ice is a useful type to have. It's one of the Dragon-type's only weakness, I've heard.

[ King will be wounded if he finds out he missed her. :c ]

And they seem to be rare, to boot. I suppose they need a specific climate, which I gather most of Johto doesn't usually have.

Hey I got a Snowthingy too! [Holds up her Pokeball]

But I didn't know they were actually kinda weak. That totally sucks! [Gives the pokeball a sideways look.]

[ She glances at her own Pokéball, off-camera. ] I really meant that defensively, they have quite a few weaknesses. They're probably fairly powerful, offensively.

Really! That's good! Man. I need to learn more about this type stuff. I should ask Leon, but I bet he'd be all boring and technical explaining it.

[ She laughs a little. ] Well, it's sort of boring and technical.

It's pretty easy to remember, though - fairly intuitive, because a lot of it's common sense. Like Fire-types being weak against Water, or Ice being weak against Fire. Not all of them are simple to figure out, but enough of them are that it doesn't leave you with many tricky ones to remember.
