I... suppose I miss my occupation.

[Hear the ENTHUSIASM in his voice.]

[That is some enthusiasm you got there. I nearly fell off my chair.]

I miss th'castle an' how they turn it into a little festival for th'cherry blossoms... th'lights on Tsutenkaku at night... Gettin' hauled out shopping t'Ame-mura an'Dotonbori by Kazuha... All th'traditional theatres an'museums, th'shrine I drug Kudo to...
[Ah, the occasional attacks of pure wibbly homesickness. Get the feeling he could go on like this for a while?] Tenjin-matsuri'd be comin' up pretty soon here, at th'end of th'month with th'fireworks over th'canals and th'Castle, there's baseball games goin' on at th'Dome...
An' th'Okonomiyaki place just downtown from th'main station, an'the food - y'just don't get restaurants like that here. Not only can y'get just about any kind of cooking if y'look, but the cooks take PRIDE in their work, an' I haven't even been able t'get decent takoyaki since I got here without makin' it myself, but when I went t'get a job at a restaurant, I keep gettin' told I'm too young t'be one of th'cooks even though I KNOW I could do better! He's actually preparing a similar lengthy speech about his own dear hometown. Beware. ]
It's pretty different from the good ol' US of A, I'll give you that. I spent a lot of time in Asia - Korea mostly - so it's not as bad as it could be.

What part're you from? [Oh, go right ahead - he's always happy to hear about places and things he hasn't seen.]

I'm from Maine, more specifically a small town called Crabapple Cove. I don't expect you to have ever heard of it, it's the kind of city where everyone knows everyone else and the donkeys wear felt hats. Great place to grow up in though... it's been a while since I was there.

I also occasionally miss my job, but I imagine that goes for a lot of people here. The options for work are few.
[He says all of this rather quickly, but with a thoughtful air. Yes, why not discuss this.]

And I can't argue about the lack of work - it sure seems like you can't get anything above entry-level no matter how overqualified you are.

Overqualified is a good word. Leads to no small amount of frustration. Not to mention the paperwork the Centers will give you is a killer.

Oh, tell me about it! I thought the daily reports were bad but this is disproportionally ridiculous!

I'd even settle for a bus. A tram. Anything that's better than this.

Y'know, that's not a bad idea. I don't get why no one's ever thought of setting up a transport system like that before - it can't be that hard and it would make travelling a lot safer.

Milk, huh? That's good, you gotta drink your milk if you want to be strong when you grow up.
