[There is fumbling and static, as there so often is when you're trying to figure out technology a few decades more advanced than anything you've ever seen before. After a moment the feed clears up and a mans voice comes through. It's kind of obvious that he's not entirely sure how the Pokégear works or if there's actually a transmission going on ( ( Read more... )

[Sorry man, this kid is just going to start laughing a bit.] You're looking for a psychiatrist cause you don't think this is real, huh? I'd pinch you if I were in New Bark Town so you could see you weren't waking up.

[oh hey look he found the video function kind of. You get a nice upside-down shot of his Psyduck for a few seconds before the camera swings up, giving you a just as lovely shot of Hawk's weathered visage.]

I'm not looking, I already found one. What else would a quack be if not a duck? And I think I recognize a delusion when I see one, they bite me in the tukhus often enough.

Makes sense, though I don't know if the Psyduck will be able to help you out with much. Apparently, they have constant headaches, according to my dex. [He has to cross his arms a bit here with a skeptical expression.]

Yeah? And just how hard do delusions bite?

That just proves it - what would a psychiatrist be without a headache? [waitaminnit] Your what.

I could drop my pants and show you the scars but you'd have to buy me dinner first.

At least he listens just as well, even if he can't answer in a way you can understand -- Oh, you have one too! [Give him a second to pull the Pokedex out and show that, then flip it open to get a recording of Psyduck.]

Psyduck, the Duck Pokémon. It uses mysterious powers to perform various attacks. Psyduck constantly suffers from a headache. When its headache intensifies, it starts using strange powers. However, it has no recollection of its powers, so it always looks befuddled and bewildered.

[To the next comment though, Lea winds up muffling a snorted laugh.] What, seriously? You drive a tough bargain. Didn't know delusions bit that hard, but your imagination must be even wilder than mine then.

Neither could Sidney. [He peers at the thing with a frown - wat am modern technology? It seems like the pieces are starting to fall into place though] Oh so... this thing doubles as an encyclopedia? That's practical.

[Looking over to his Psyduck. Now that he knows what it is and what it does... it's more a Radar than a Sidney, isn't it? Same height, eerie psychic powers... just add coke bottle glasses.]

Oh, my imagination is like a bucking bull. It could move mountains if it wasn't so lazy.

Yup! [Putting the dex away, Lea just grins.] Maybe one of these days it'll move more than mountains. Figuratively, I guess.

So, are you gonna call it Sidney?

I don't know, it's starting to look more like a Radar. Same height and everything.

Funny name for a person, was there a reason they were named Radar?

He could always tell what was going to happen before it happened. It was downright eerie, let me tell you.

Whoa, that is kind of weird. A cool talent to have though, I mean, I'd like to have some kind of mental radar so I can dodge guards better.

It came in handy. Usually when it came to chopper spotting - I think our unit was so efficient because we were always half-way to the landing pad before the wounded even hit the ground.

"Dodge guards"? What are you, Arséne Lupin?

... Huh, what did you do back home? Er, well, in your world, I guess I should say.

Whose that? Me and my friend Isa wanted to find out what was going on at the castle at home, so we break in pretty frequently. Some of the guards catch us after a few hours though and throw us out.

I'm a surgeon. Well... I can do all sorts of doctoring but for the last three years I worked at an Army Hospital three miles from the front. Radar was our company clerk.

Wait, you haven't heard of Arséne Lupin? The gentleman thief? [yes this is a lot more shocking than kids breaking into castles okay]

Whoa. Whoa. That's kind of awesome. [Sorry Hawk, it really is neat to him. HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT ARMY FOOD TASTES LIKE.]

Nope, no idea who that is! He probably wasn't ever in Radiant Garden if he's from your world.

[FFFFF don't call that awesome it was really horrible okay. He actually frowns a little. ]

I don't know if I'd call walking around all day with blood up to your ankles awesome.

He's a character from a book. [pause] ...Radiant Garden. Sounds like a geisha house.
