So today there will be two memes. There's the 30-day one, and one I snagged from
princessatta.
So first, the 30-day fanfic meme.
Day 6 - When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?
Well, it really depends on a lot of things; how well I think I can get into a character's head, on the characters themselves, what I think about them, whether or not I feel able to write them, and the situation I imagine for them and if it's in their character, etc. I'm not even sure if I ever really considered which gender I prefer writing...
*glances through fics* According to these, though, I seem to lean a little more towards male characters...Huh. Go figure.
Day 1 - How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in? Day 2 - Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it. Day 3 - For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write? Day 4 - Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse? Day 5 -If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?Day 6 - When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?
Day 7 - Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?
Day 8 - Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.
Day 9 - Pairings - For each of the fandoms from day two, what are your three favorite pairings to write?
Day 10 - Pairings - Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
Day 11 - Genre - do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?
Day 12 - Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?
Day 13 - Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?
Day 14 - Ratings - how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
Day 15 - Warnings - What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?
Day 16 - Summaries - Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?
Day 17 - Titles - Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?
Day 18 - Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?
Day 19 - When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?
Day 20 -Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?
Day 21 - Sequels - Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?
Day 22 - Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?
Day 23 - When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
Day 24 - Betaing - How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
Day 25 - Music - Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
Day 26 - What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?
Day 27 - Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?
Day 28 - Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?
Day 29 - What is your current project or projects?
Day 30 - Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!
And now, the other one. I've done something like this before, but I thought it'd be cool to try it again ^^
Comment to this post, and I will list five things I associate with you. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your LJ (or just add a reply back at me). Other people (including me~) can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.
Here are the things that
princessatta gave me:
1. Fanfiction - Ah, my favorite hobby and pastime, heehee. I just love fanfiction, whether reading it or writing it. I started writing fanfiction back when I was in 7th grade, and one of my teachers commented on how it seemed like a way for me to get my emotions out. I'm not entirely sure if that's true or not, since I don't always writing about things I know or am going through...but I guess writing does make me feel better. The reason I like writing fanfiction as opposed to developing something of my own though is because I like getting into the heads of characters who are already set up. I know that sounds weird, and maybe even a little lazy, but I like getting to know a character I already love even further through writing them, by getting into their head and seeing how they would act and what they would do in any given situation. And even if I'm not actually writing anything down, I love writing the ideas and stories in my head and trying to figure out how it would all work. I could honestly get lost just sitting and thinking about a potential story idea; how I would go about it, what I imagine would happen, etc. It's just so much fun for me...
And I tend to get a bit carried away with it...lol whoops. Didn't mean to ramble. Moving on...
2. Toy Story - To be honest, I was actually kind of surprised to see this here. A few years ago, I wouldn't have really thought much of Toy Story. While I loved the first two movies and watched them, I wasn't really that involved with them. They were just something I liked to watch. But after the third movie came out, and now looking back on them as an adult, I found myself falling in love with them, more than I had back then. I'm not sure what it is or why that happened. I guess part of it is just the innocence of the idea - toys coming to life. It's kind of like coming back to childhood, which makes it all the more fun.
3. Mario - My first introduction to video games, heehee. Honestly, my first memories of video games were of my older sister playing Super Mario 3 on the NES at my aunt's house way back when I was really young (guh, I hate how old that makes me sound). Even before Sonic the Hedgehog, which we actually owned when I was a kid. And we even watched the Mario Bros cartoon...which I didn't remember as much of until we got the cartoon on DVD, but I do remember watching it. I guess you could say Mario was my first introduction to fandom and nerdiness before I realized I was into them lol.
4. Cartoons (or Anime specifically really) - Well, it's hard to talk about Anime specifically without talking about cartoons. The first Anime I ever watched when I was a kid was Sailor Moon, but at the time I didn't even realize it was Japanese. To me, it looked like a cartoon, which was all I ever watched. I didn't know there was anything different about it until I started looking up stuff online. Then I got into Pokemon and Dragonball Z...and then we moved to Taiwan, where I learned there were a lot of different kinds of anime. I think that's when I really started getting into Anime as its own separate genre, because I was watching a lot of them for the first time in Taiwan, so it didn't bother me that they were speaking in Chinese and I didn't understand them that well. But trying to watch American cartoons, cartoons with voices I was already familiar with, was hard to do, and so I gave them up in favor of Anime.
Nowadays, though, I like Anime and cartoons equally about the same. It all depends on what I find interesting, so either kind can capture my attention. To be honest, I prefer animated media to non-animated media. And while there are exceptions, I find that to be true a majority of the time...heehee.
5. Dedicated - This one is a little tougher to talk about, just because I'm not sure what to say. If I'm going to be completely honest, this is not one of the words I ever thought to associate with myself. And I don't think it's because I'm not...er, which I guess I mean that I think am...maybe? Hmm...I just never really thought about it before. I mean, I really admire people who are dedicated, to their beliefs or to something they do or work on or something. And I have my own beliefs and standards and ideas. But...I don't know, am I the kind of person someone would call dedicated?
