Regarding organization, I am sure you know that old tale of a Jewish merchant, who came back home after visiting (late medieval) the Vatican and how he was convinced in the verity of the Catholic Church. My reasoning is somewhat parallel to this - the Church is Holy in aspiration towards holiness, not in the actual sanctity of Her extant members, structures, or ordinances...

I would say that his conclusion is correct, but perhaps a bit too touchy to be inlcuded in our Lives of Saints. He is correct in sensing that any interaction of a human being with God, be it within the Church or outside, is not a given thing. In fact, the way chaos and corruption seemingly have no effect on the outcome of the life of the Church have convinced him in the Eternal truth of this in institution.

Christ did indeed say of the church that “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”. But that is no promise to ensure that the Church will at all time fulfil its task of being a light to the world, nor should we imply too quickly that what He sees as church today is necessarily co-terminous with the institution(s) that call themselves Church.
