Silver Maple, in more detail than I ever gave it

I got an email recently from someone who discovered my 365 urban species entry on silver maple.  He goes into a quite a bit of detail wondering about the usefulness of the tree, trying to use everything but the oink, so to speak.  I'm not sure if you'd file this under permaculture, wild edibles, a combination, or a whole new obsession.  What do you ( Read more... )

I've never seen a groundhog run for more than a few seconds. Put them on a hamster wheel and they'd keel over.

That's quite a plan that guy has. Maybe in a thousand years all of our "natural" areas will be managed like this.

Reminds me of a comment made by a Chinese grad student of my acquaintance after he saw Cambridge. He was surprised to see geese living so close to a university, he said. In China they'd be food for hungry grad students.

I don't think it would take a thousand years ...

But yeah -- the groundhog line made me wonder whether this was some kind of obscure satire.
