That sounds like a great trip! That's sort of how I wanted Urban Nature Walk to be, with a group of naturalists with slightly different expertise, so each of us could contribute and each of us could learn from one another.

They are always everywhere! It's a matter of training ourselves to see them. :)

There are tons of hackberry trees in central Texas. Most Texans hate them. One reason for that hate is that they tend to split and drop branches or even a trunk if there are multiple trunks. The other reason is that they spread fast, they grow fast and they will grow around the strands in a barbed wire fence. On ranches, it's often the kid's job to keep the fences clear of trees. Since most of the trees they end up clearing are hackberry trees, the kids grow up hating hackberries.
