Technical/opinion question

Hey everyone! Since I've used up my LJ scrapbook storage, and lost my photo manipulating software, I have less control over the size of my photos. I could make an effort to ensmallen them somehow, if it's annoying to see giant pictures on your friends' page. Irfanview is free, uses great jpeg algorithms, is not nagware, is simple to use and will allow you to crop, resize, sharpen and play with contrast and colour.

Flickr is free and for free will now allow you to store large files, more pictures than you'll take in your life and gives you a choice of sizes to display on your blog. I go for the "640 pixels" size.

I upload pictures from my camera to my laptop (just Windows Photo Gallery, nothing fancy). When I upload pictures from my laptop to lj, a window pops up with a thumbnail of the photo, and in the lower right hand corner, next to the "add to post" button, is a small "Resize" drop-down menu. 600 is a nice size that no one complains about. Do you not get this set of choices when you upload a picture to lj?

Yes, I do get that option, or I should say I did up until earlier today when I instead got the error message that I had used up all my scrapbook space (and that I could buy more if I wanted).
