I've only seen those from far away. They're lovely. There's a big lake in Prospect Park and there were lots of ducks, swans and geese swimming around. I was with friends and we noticed some odd behavior in what we thought at first were mallards. Turned out they were shovelers. My friend took a video: http://www.flickr.com/photos/axlotl/5278983565/

These are one of my very favorite birds. It always makes me happy when they show up.
