Here's a tribute to Huell Howser:

There was a show called 'Back Streets and Byways' or something like that on PBS for a while -- actually maybe it's still on -- that might be along the lines of what you're talking about. I thought of it because I think they had a short segment on Archimedes Plutonium once; maybe Kibo was on it too some years before. I believe I taped the Archimedes Plutonium segment in around 1996 or 1997 and I might actually have played it for you at some point when you were visiting in the early 2000s. Does that sound familiar?

I don't think that show had a particular personality associated with it, though.

I'm pretty tired right now and am dealing with a bad cough, so my brain is not at 100% at the moment; I might remember more in the morning (or maybe this will jog someone else's memory).

Correction: It was called "Main Streets and Back Roads" and was a recurring thing on Chronicle. There's some information on wikipedia here:

Sorry to hear you're sick!

Yeah, I remember seeing a segment about Archimedes Plutonium. Don't recall it in detail, but I think I recall it being somewhere between "Rob on the Road" and "PM Magazine", maybe closer to the former than the latter.
