Odd Spam Behavior

Nov 20, 2011 15:44

I don't know why, but spammers seem fascinated by my last post about an animated film. I've gotten something like 6 to 8 spam replies to that one, which I delete, of course.

I'm posting this mainly to see if they're just commented on my most recent post, or specifically Googling for key words in that post.

Spam on LJ seems very strange. I've found that the robot spammers seem to like posts that contain "twitter-isms" like hashtags and @usernames.

The odd bit is that I get two types, the first is blatant from an anonymous poster, a vague sentence designed to not comment on anything in particular and everything in general, followed by a link to a site selling me herbal viagra. The second type are from journal users that have just been added, and they have the same type of vague non-sequitor comment, but no link to herbal viagra. Those are puzzling me, what do they want?

They want you to look at their profile, which is where the link for herbal viagra is.

This may come as a surprise to you, but I am glorious leader of Antarctica, and my father wants to ship you a box of 16 MILLIOD viagara tables. Could you please post your address and where you keep the key so we can kindly deposit the box on your kitchen bench.

Dammit, there were two spam comments around the same time as your comment, but because you used the word "viagara", I still can't be sure what's triggering them.
