Hey, I'm still obsessing over the chain from the "Ghostbusters" theme song to "I Want a New Drug" to "Pop Muzik"! I meant to comment on this quote from the Wikipedia entry:

According to Lewis, he wrote the song in only a few minutes. "I just woke up one morning after a long party and just wrote NEW DRUG.

For some reason my impression is that the Ghost Busters people originally contacted Huey Lewis to do the music for the movie, and only after he refused did they contact Ray Parker Jr. I don't find any support for that on the Internet, though, so I'm not sure where I picked the idea up.

It's mentioned on the Wikipedia page for the theme song, although no source is given for the statement. This may in fact be part of Huey Lewis's reasoning: that someone connected to Columbia or to the producers of the film heard what he was working on when they approached him, then deliberately copied what he was doing out of spite or something, in which case he's not claiming that he's original, but that he's the one that came up with the idea of copying "Pop Muzik" that particular year.
