Linguistics professor Geoffrey Pullum is planning an anti-Strunk and White Elements of Style rally at Brown, although he's been told he's not allowed to include a book-burning. Still, it might be interesting. It's at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, April 13th. If anyone goes, it might be an interesting LJ post.

I'm curious about how well he'll do.

Hmm, I might go to that if other plans don't interfere.

I appreciate that he tried to think of wacky things to do but couldn't come up with anything wackier than what happens regularly at Brown anyway.

I don't see the problem with a book-burning when the books have been bought and paid for. Sure it has a connotation problem, but there's nothing wrong with burning your own stuff, be they flags or books.

Then again, this is a college, so it's well possible that they're just concerned about fire liability.
