schellibie and I, on a whim, ended up talking about her concept of a Marching Band AU (henceforth referred to as "marchingstuck" because Shelby hasn't given me a better name HURRY UP SHELBY). A couple hours later, this shambled out our mental birth canals as a malformed, partly-illustrated monster, with the most inane and beautiful AU setting of all time.

I was in high school orchestra and choir. When I think about what it would have been like to add in marching, I die a thousand comedic deaths.

Trufax: my high school boyfriend wore a dragon t-shirt identical to Terezi's in the illustration nearly every day I ever saw him.

Then again we were co-presidents of the anime club, which is like ten billion times geekier than marching band to begin with.

I lack the hand-eye-brain coordination necessary to play instruments. :(

We had a deleted conversation more specifically regarding Karkat playing the cello. I can only imagine we would have gone on to Karkat playing the harp, which is a mental image I can't get rid of.

i play(ed? i don't get as much practice now) the cello! there was a SUPER INTENSE RIVALRY between the band and orchestra in middle school, but it mellowed out quite a lot in high school.

except for those awkward times when we had to play combined songs with the band and it was all like

"THIS SCHOOL IS TOO CHEAP TO BUY EVERY ONE OF US MICS SO QUIET THE HELL DOWN FUCKASSES 8|"
"THE OBVIOUS SOLUTION IS THAT YOU GUYS JUST NEED TO PLAY LOUDER!"
"DOES IT LOOK LIKE WE HAVE BIG FAT AMPLIFIERS ON THESE THINGS TO YOU........"
bluh bluh etc.

not to mention the times when it turned out the different conductors always had us practice the pieces at different tempos and the like three or four practice sessions we got together were always horrible messes but yeah

OKOK aside from that, this is the best AU and you are gods.

I seem to recall my best friend in high school, the Jade to my John, describing her experience in marching band as pretty much exactly like this.

I can only imagine Jack and Dad actually become total bros and every so often, John finds his dad and Mr. Noir having a beer. The very thought of it freezes the marrow in his bones.

I will probably end up writing a couple of joke stories for this eventually, but it's like, what more can I say. Everything has been said here.
