I think it does, but it's been enduring fanon that the Striders are not so well off in the end; I think mainly because the apartment is sort of shitty with more stuff than furniture, because the fridge is full of swords and not food, and mainly the bottom line is that people like making Dave sad.
A kid is in any case the biggest expense you can get barring an elephant.
