Hey, thanks for the run-down on the X-books. I hardly ever read "official" tie-in novels. I figure the authors are so constrained by TPTB that the story can never be as good as fanfic. But now and then I read the "official" novels.
The one by Liu sounds interesting.
I read the Chaos Engine triolgy and got bored to death by the endless rambling interludes about these characters in outer space.... I found myself skipping hundreds of pages. That book needed some severe editing.
At least in X-verse we don't seem to have a problem with the authors of the tie-ins barging into our fan space to pimp their books or respond indignantly to lackluster reviews.... that's what's going on in SPN fandom.
I must say I find those interludes a little boring as well, but I'm that kind of people who won't drop a book until finish it, and most of the time I find the story overall makes up for some of its drawbacks, but there're still times that I think I totally wast my money and efforts. *points to Empire's End*

I guess X-fans are more indulgent of the authors using the x-characters, but I guess my tolerance is strengthened over the years by the comic writers constantly screwing over my favorite character. *sigh*
'The rogue Sentinel' is the one Scott destroyed, but it is to refer to Danger's one of many (not-entirely-successful) attempts at killing the X-Men, probably has nothing to do with Scott's Sentinel-blasting moment, though that scene is one of the best scenes in AXM, it shows how awesome Cyclops is!
