I wrote this post a good while before s3 finale, so if it seems like I'm omitting some facts, that would be because they didn't exist yet :).

I love this meta, much kudos, Tis wonderful :D.

She doesn't give a shit about collateral damage when her loved ones are in danger.This is so why I love Elena. You've nailed it exactly, it isn't about her being a moral compass, it's about her growing as an ordinary human being put into an extraordinary situation. She protects the people she cares about, that's human, and if she has to she will ignore everything else to do it. Elena doesn't think about everything else, because though she might care, she can't afford to, and so she doesn't. There's always a big distinction made even by Elena herself that I find amazing: e.g. telling Damon he can't do these things around her (implying that it's okay to do them far away from her life and loved ones), telling Stefan he doesn't realise how bad he's gotten after he has already been ripping people up far away and that didn't cause nearly as much of an issue for her. This is actually a very human attribute, when it comes to people we care about, a lot of people can accept a lot of bad

I love the way you write Elena, both in fics and meta. <333 I must confess I often have issues with her: sometimes I both love her and want to slap her at the same time. But I mostly blame it on the writers, not on the character. I'm still undecided how I feel about the show Elena, but I can definitely say that your writing brings out the best and the worst in her (in a good, 3D and IC way) beautifully. :)
