Good

Elena undaggers Rebekah for the hell of it. She has no deeper reason, no plan and no agenda. She simply needs to do something stupid, stick it to Klaus and to Stefan, stir things up and create more chaos (because, apparently, almost fucking Damon through a wall, a bookshelf and cupboard full of cleaning utensils wasn't chaotic enough).

“I still hate you,” says Rebekah after she wakes up, confused and angry, pretending there're no tears on her face. Rebekah always says exactly what she thinks.

“Good,” replies Elena with an indifferent shrug she's been practicing lately. “Good.”

“You don't deserve that cure, you know,” says Rebekah the next time they see each other. “But they'll probably find it for you. You're like a cockroach, you just won't die.”

“Well then, try better next time.”

Elena finds herself pinned to the nearest wall in a heartbeat. A stake that appeared out of nowhere is gently pressing against her sternum, and Elena takes a deep, slow breath just to feel her chest expand against the wood.

“Don't provoke me, you little bitch,” hisses Rebekah. “I will do it.”

But then she doesn't.

Next time a hunter appears in town, they take him down together.

It's a close call, because he puts up the hell of a fight, and Elena almost ends up snapping his neck. She stops herself at a very last minute, redirects the blow and dislocates his shoulder instead. When she looks up again, panting and crying, she meets Rebekah's ice-cold stare.

“You should've killed him,” says Rebekah (she always says exactly what Elena thinks). “Would've solved so many of my problems.”

Before she ties the hunter down, she breaks both of his arms just for good measure. They have to lock him up in the old Forbes' prison cell before anyone finds out he even exists. There's no time to lose, but it's not a problem, because Rebekah is quick and inhumanely efficient, like she's been chaining people up her entire life.

The hunter whimpers quietly when she's done, and for a second Elena is afraid Rebekah will do something awful, look at her or ask a question, but of course nothing like that happens, Rebekah is reliable like that. She picks up the hunter without as much as a word and walks away, calm and composed, pretending there're no tears on Elena's face.

Good.
