Another teacher suspended, this time for teaching journalism.

Mar 12, 2006 13:39

Miami, FL - Lakeview High School teacher Devon Fralick was suspended because she is doing her job and doing it well. Among her duties, she instructs a class that produces a morning television news cast for the school. The self evident results clearly show she is getting through to his students ( Read more... )

Anyone presenting a conflicting view is to be ridiculed, slapped down, harassed, lied about and silenced at every turn. It's right out of the liberal play book.

Frankly that's a pile of horseshit. L, I have a great deal of respect for you, but this is a stretch and a half, OM.

If it's in the liberal playbook, they got it from the neocons and the talking-head conservatives first. Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, or any other of the right winger nutballs screaming "Liberal!" at anyone who dares contradict them bears this out nicely.

This is a play out of any powertrippers playbook. Both sides are equally guilty of this. Frankly, I'm tired of both sides polarizing this nation, as we'll tear ourselves apart if they don't cut it out. I'm damned tired of dissent being squashed from anywhere in the political spectrum.

Okay, you're right. I stand most humbly corrected.

Sorry, really bad yesterday, last night and today, still stinging from some politically correct bullshit I had to deal with last week and generally annoyed at much of the hate speak being directed at me and around me lately.

It won't happen again.

Hey, probably a trigger issue for me, too. Call it even?

Just been hating how much people keep forgetting how kickass a country this is and that our differences are our strengths.

It is bullshit that the teacher got suspended, however. What a lesson to be presenting to the students. Keep in line, or you're going to get smacked. Feh.

Hang in there. There has to be a relatively idiot-free area of this country somewhere, right?

I know this is a little late but, I attend Lakeview High in MI. I was in the class room and watched the segment that received such attention. While most things you said were correct and i agree with, their are several key things that dont match up. Lets start with the obvious. Devon Fralick, is a Mrs. Not a he. How much research could you have done to miss that? Secondly, yes, in the first half of the show, everything that was shown was readily available on the web. But you failed to mention the last half which included a, what I found unnecessary, interview with some one Scott Sobanski worked with. He used raunchy language, (which yes, was edited out) but was pointless. This person in the interview named specific girls that he "targeted" on myspace.com. This is a co-worker of Scott. I see were it was going but I dont think it was reached. So if you want to work with Scott Sobanski, someone that simply put together a slide show and associates with sick people, you go for it. But the only person I'm standing behind here is MRS Devon ( ... )

Well thank-you. No harm done.

Your right seeing his co-worker got every single person who was glued to that screen watching. I simply think it should have been executed differently.

As far as seeing the piece on the internet or anywhere else, right now it looks doubtful. The police think they confiscated every copy of the tape and deleted it off the computers. Of course there is no way to be sure none of the students made a copy. So who knows maybe one day it will be on YouTube.

Thanks for protecting me from the spam beast =]

The police? I thought this was an internal school matter that spilled over into a media storm. Which is probably the primary reason Mrs. Fralick had to take a fall. When did it become a criminal matter?

By the way, please give my respects to Mrs. Fralick.

I know that now. However, had you read the comments you would discover that your correction is nine months late. That fact has already been pointed out to me by another student.

I was unable to interview Mrs. Fralick in person on the matter. In my experience the name "Devon" has always been assigned to male.

So this small bit of information slipped by in the story. To you agree or disagree with the point?

I'm aware we are past a year of this news being relevant, but I just found your writing.

I'm Scott Sobanski, producer of the expose. I'd like to thank you for your support and kind words.

In case you have never seen it I have supplied a link to the actual video.
Thank you again.

It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

I just watched the piece and it's good. Very good. There was nothing in it that should have resulted in disciplinary action on anyone.

Great work!

So... Are you going to pursue a career in broadcast journalism?
