I don't get it. How would unionizing CompUSA change a really bad corporate wide customer service policy?
Will the unions force them to have someone actually in your local store answer the phone and then physically check local stock for you? Would the union force the idiot manager to exchange a defective hard drive?
Sorry, Dawn, I don't see how being union would have saved CompUSA.
You state exactly why "the end of an era" is not always a bad thing. Poor customer service in this competitive market is inexcusable. There is a computer company/internet provider here that is insanely bad with customer service. I have no idea how they stay in business. I dropped them about a year after I first used them for an ISP. They did stay up and running most of the time, but heaven forbid you go in the store and ask a question. The most condescending, rude bunch of nerds I've ever met.
Unfortunately, we had the same experiences with CompUSA that you did.
When we first started going there, it rocked. Computer stuff everywhere, all the parts, pieces and toys we could want. But things started going downhill, and we found Microcenter. They were a little higher in price, but the folks were friendly and knew what they were talking about. CompUSA became awful, and we avoided it at all costs. The store here in Aurora, who moved to a brand new location near the Aurora Mall, was so poor that we had to chase down an associate to ask questions about buying a high-dollar item.
It's really no surprise that they went under. Mis-management among other things finally caught up with them.
