i'm putting together some stuff for my sister, who's going on fifteen and having (predictably) not the best time ever. so:

what music/books/poetry/information/other would have made or did make your adolescence somewhat less shittacular?

there are two books -- one is The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is kinda pretentious, but worked for me at fifteen;
and Very Far Away From Anywhere Else by Ursula K. LeGuin (not a fantasy novel). i still read this when i need reassuring.

book-wise, perks of being a wallflower is completely cliché (these days) but it definitely helped me get through high school.
i also listened to a lot of older stuff by the ataris and saves the day.
