the weirdest thing about growing up/older is the strange feeling as all the Oldest Generation slowly pass. When they're very old, it's not really sad? because really since Modern Science has taken care of many of the things that used to off us in our younger years, we're mostly left with Alzheimers and cancer now, and they both suck a lot, and ( Read more... )

You know, for some strange reason I was thinking, well, not exactly the same, but something similar just recently. I saw one of my friends with her parents and her little daughter in the supermarket on Saturday and I was thinking "Holy sh**, her parents are ooooold!" O_O The problem (or not problem) is that my parents, or at least my father, still look incredibly young (my Dad still has black hair without having to dye it and my friend's father barely had any hair left). Also, I still have one set of grandparents and my great-grandmother on my mother's side lived to the ripe old age of 99; my paternal great-aunt is 97 this year. So I guess I'll have a pretty long life unless I manage to give myself a heart-attack, which is the only cause of death in the immediate family on both sides (beats cancer, I suppose ( ... )

That seems like it's not too bad to look forward to, really. My family's all over the place in both ages and causes, but yes, Science has given us 60ish years to go even at our age, so that's not bad. I'm perfectly happy to be in my Second Twenties ^__~

That's certainly true, about the fear of dying. My grandfather is almost 95 and practically looks forward to it at this point. (Hey, if we can come back on space stations, I might actually get into the idea of reincarnation...)
