Summary - Jon is worried how You will react to his fanservice with Gackt, but You is oblivious to a lot of things
“You-san, can I speak with you?”
YFC were in the rehearsal studio frantically trying to learn the new songs, and reinvent the old ones, in anticipation of their soon to begin European tour. They were taking a rare food break and You was taking the opportunity to not only eat, but to have a few moments of peace and quiet. It was Jon that had interrupted his solitude, but he didn’t mind. He’d barely had time to speak to the new vocalist on a one to one basis since Jon had joined the band so he motioned for Jon to take the seat across the table from him.
“Of course,” You replied with a smile. “What’s up?”
Jon took a deep breath. “I just want to make sure that things are cool between us.”
“Why wouldn’t they be?” You asked honestly.
“Well, after this break we’ll start rehearsing Mousou Girl and Vanilla, and the fanservice that comes with it.”
“I know.”
Jon paused for a few seconds in the hope that You would say something more. When he realised that nothing more would be said by the guitarist, he leaned forward and explained further. “The fanservice I’ll be doing with Gackt.”
“Yeah, I know about it,” You said with a hint of confusion in his voice.
Jon closed his eyes briefly. You wasn’t making this easy for him. “We’ll be simulating… things… on stage and touching each other quite intimately.”
“I know you will,” You said, confusion still lacing his voice, “I was at the band meeting when this was discussed, remember?”
“Well,” Jon said slowly, “I just wanted to make sure that we’d be okay despite the fanservice.”
You was still confused, and the earnest and worried look on Jon’s face just made him even more confused. What was Jon’s point? “Why wouldn’t we be okay?”
“Because of you and Gackt,” Jon said hesitantly.
Now You really was confused. “What about me and Gackt?”
“Well, your relationship with him.”
“What relationship?” You asked.
“You’re together, aren’t you?” Jon said. “I thought you might be concerned that another man would be molesting your boyfriend every night on stage.”
You laughed. “Gackt’s not my boyfriend! We aren’t together! Neither of us is even gay.”
Jon looked dumbstruck. “You’re not dating?”
“No,” You laughed. “Whatever gave you that idea?”
Jon sat back in his chair. You may now be laughing, but Jon was thoroughly confused. “I just thought you were together. You look at each other like you are.”
You stopped laughing. “What do you mean by that?”
“Gackt looks at you like you’re the most important thing in his world. And you look at him like he’s the most precious thing you’ve ever seen.”
“We don’t,” You denied.
“You do,” Jon insisted. “He’s different with you, softer… Even when he was angry and shouting at you a couple of days ago, there was this affection in his voice. It was completely different to when he was angry with Chacha yesterday.”
You shook his head. “I think you need to get your hearing checked.”
Jon continued. “You’re always watching him, too. You can’t take your eyes off Gackt and you usually have this light smile on your face as you watch him.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” You stammered.
“Alright man,” Jon said, raising his hands in submission as he shrugged his shoulders, “you know better than I do as I don’t know what the situation is between you two. But I know what I’ve seen, and the two of you look completely besotted with each other.” Jon stood up. “I’m sorry to have interrupted you, and I’m glad that we’re cool.”
You just nodded as Jon smiled and walked away.
You didn’t move from his seat, not even when the crew members started shouting that the break was over and to return to the rehearsal room. He didn’t hear them calling his name as his mind was full of what Jon had said.
What finally made him move was the feel of Gackt’s rough palms, but gentle grip, on his bare forearms as the singer pulled him out of his seat.
“Wake up, Sleeping Beauty,” Gackt said with a smile, “rest time is over.”
You saw that beautiful smile of Gackt’s and knew he was completely and utterly fucked.
Jon was right.
