Summary - Shinya and Jon are discussing Shinya's marriage, and Gackt has a confession
Notes - Shinya is married to Aya Ishiguro, who was one of the first generation Morning Musume members
“What’s it like to be on the road when you have a wife and kids at home?”
Jon and Shinya were seated opposite each other on the tour bus. They’d entered Germany sometime a few hours ago, and had been chatting away ever since. Gackt was sat in the window seat next to Jon, but as his face was turned towards the window and he had sunglasses covering his eyes, it was difficult to tell if he was asleep or simply not paying attention. Gackt hadn’t spoken since entering Germany, so Jon and Shinya had decided to leave him out of the conversation.
Shinya considered Jon’s question. “It’s difficult. I really miss them, all of the time.”
Jon nodded in agreement. He didn’t have a wife and child at home, but he did have an entire family back in America that ne never saw. “Your wife was in Morning Musume, wasn’t she?”
“Yeah,” Shinya smiled. “She was really talented and…”
“I nearly married a member of Morning Musume once.”
Jon and Shinya were surprised both by Gackt interrupting them after such a long period of silence from him, and also by what he said.
“I didn’t know you’d dated a member of Morning Musume,” Shinya said surprised. “Aya is still in contact with a lot of the girls and she never mentioned it.”
Gackt sighed. “It was a short romance. An impossible dream.”
“What happened?” Jon asked.
Gackt stared out of the window again. “We were too different… we walked different paths. It was never going to work.”
“I didn’t know,” Shinya said sadly, “I’m really sorry to hear that.”
“It’s okay,” Gackt said with a sad smile. “We had some good times, they were just too short.”
The three of them fell into an awkward silence for a few moments. Gackt had sounded so sad and defeated as he’d spoken that it had robbed both Jon and Shinya of anything they could possibly say next. Gackt’s heartache still sounded so raw and painful, that Jon was kicking himself for mentioning the subject at all.
Jon and Shinya both silently rejoiced when You came to stand beside their table with a bright smile on his face. The smile soon disappeared though when he noticed the awkwardness that had settled onto his three band mates. “What’s up?” You asked.
“We were just discussing my marriage,” Shinya said, “and Gackt was telling us about the time he nearly married one of the Morning Musume members.”
“Yeah,” Jon said, “it sounded really sad.”
“It was doomed from the start,” Gackt said softly, “I wish things had worked out differently.”
You looked over the three men seated before him with a puzzled look on his face. After several long moments, he burst into laughter. “Gaku, stop teasing them.”
“What do you mean, ‘teasing us’?” Jon asked.
You was still laughing. “I don’t think a very awkward televised date that Gackt was forced into with Ai Kago when she was 13 counts as nearly marrying a member of Morning Musume.”
