Giant rats in SPAAAACE

Rats have gone totally high tech.
Scientists plan to use satellite photos to count Giant Kangaroo Rats, the first-ever monitoring of an endangered species from outer space. The technology replaces trapping and tedious airplane fly-overs as a means of taking census.

Spy satellites are all in low Earth orbit, not in geosynchronous, and so they overfly everything except Antarctica, and even that, if the orbit is polar...

Most likely because US spy agencies don't want other nations to have any idea of how good their resolution is with the KeyHole satellites.
